About Dr. Huene

In addition to his general orthopedic surgery expertise, Donald S. Huene, MD, was the first accredited fellow for the Upper Extremity Fellowship of the Division of Hand Surgery at Stanford University in Stanford, California, in 1995. At his practice, Sobiek and Huene Orthopedic Surgical Associates, Dr. Huene shares his advanced specialties in orthopedic surgery and hand surgery with patients of all ages in Reno, Nevada, and the surrounding communities.

Dr. Huene was born in Pensacola, Florida, and grew up on a ranch in Fresno, California. As a teenager, Dr. Huene returned to the East Coast where he graduated summa cum laude from Northfield Mount Hermon School in Mount Hermon, Massachusetts, in 1979. He earned his medical degree from Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, in 1987. He went on to complete his residency in orthopedic surgery at Stanford from 1989-1994.

Dr. Huene is a board-certified physician with added qualification in hand surgery from the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is also a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.

In 1995, Dr. Huene came to Reno to practice orthopedic surgery and hand surgery. He was also the team physician for the Reno Rage professional ice hockey team from 1996-1998.

At Sobiek and Huene Orthopedic Surgical Associates, Dr. Huene and his partner, James S. Sobiek, MD, provide the latest surgical and nonsurgical orthopedic treatments to help their patients stay active and improve their quality of life.

When not at the office, Dr. Huene can be found at the University of Nevada, Reno, School of Medicine, working as a clinical instructor for orthopedic students.
